What Is Reiki?

“Rei” is a Japanese word that means “Universe”, “Universal” or “Higher Power”. “Ki” means “life force energy”. Since every atom has energy within it, we could say that everything is full of and sorrounded by energy.

Reiki is a non-invasive technique that channels the universal energy, and it helps to release the blocked energy in the body. Reiki supports the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit.

Some of the beneficial effects of Reiki are:

  • A feeling of relaxation and reduction of anxiety and stress
  • Support in situations of deep emotional pain
  • Improvement of sleep patterns
  • Pain management
  • Digestion improvement
  • Enhances the body's ability of self-healing
  • Increase of self steem
  • Stimulation of the immune system
  • Increase in energy levels
  • Hastens the healing process after injuries or surgery
  • Enhancement of the feeling of well-being

Due to these effects, Reiki can help to improve a wide range of conditions, such as:

  • Anxiety, depression and other emotional illnesses
  • Chronic pain
  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Infections
  • Inflammatory diseases such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Crohn's disease

Reiki can work along with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. Even if you feel better after a Reiki treatment, please, do not remove or reduce any medication before asking your Doctor. Reiki can enhance the effects of medical and complementary treatments but doesn't replace them.

What is a Reiki treatment?

During the Reiki session the person is lying fully clothed on a massage table. Reiki involves touching parts of your body such as your chest, throat, knees or feet. I place my hands smoothly on these parts of the body, starting at the head, continuing through the front of the body and finishing at the back. The complete treatment takes approximately one hour, and during this time, it's normal to feel deep relaxation even to the point of sleeping.

If you fall asleep don't worry Reiki is just as effective. Many people feel warm or tingling where my hands are, but it can happen that the person doesn't feel anything, and again, the effect of Reiki will be just as beneficial.

Although a single Reiki treatment can promote a great improvement and since it is a cumulative energy, it is usually recommended to attend two to four sessions, one session weekly, depending on the individual and the reason for receiving Reiki, to reach a greater feeling of well-being.

Note that all sessions are confidential, that is, neither your situation nor your data will ever be disclosed to a third party.
